  • Introduction: Osteoporosis affects a substantial proportion of patients with chronic liver disease. Pathologic fracture in osteoporosis significantly affects quality of life and life expectancy. By some estimates, 40% of patients with chronic liver disease may experience osteoporotic fracture. In this study we review the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of specific liver disease entities and their relation to osteoporosis Method: Inclusion criteria: All Chronic liver disease patients with Child A, Child B, Child C and within age group - Males and Females >21 years till menopause or 65 years. Exclusion criteria: All patients with Haemodynamically Unstable; Age less than 21 years; Female with menopause (After cessation of menstruation >1 year); Patients with other medical disorders causing osteoporosis; Males and females age >65 years. All patients included in the study were subjected to bone mineral density measurement of hip joint by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) (Osteopromax of M-tec company Results: Conclusion: We concluded that low BMD is highly prevalent in patients with CLD of variable aetiologies. Causes may be multifactorial. Early screening of osteoporosis in patients with liver cirrhosis will reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality.
