Currently, Point-of-care (POC) diagnostic systems have emerged as devices for early detection of diseases with the ultimate goal of providing rapid diagnostic results in non-hospital settings to improve preventive medicine and patient survival. In this direction, the development of low cost, miniaturized, high portable and easily operational devices that provide short detection times is relevant to reach accessible POC diagnosis. This review provides an overview of the state-of-art of the use of aptamers as biorecognition element in electrochemical-based POC devices, focusing on the last reported electroanalytical configurations and their potential of portability and disposability through different illustrated examples. Prospects for this technology in POC diagnosis field are also discussed.
