• Many organizations do not prioritize leadership development in millennials and therefore lack leadership development programs that meet millennials’ unique developmental needs. Organizations need to attract and retain millennials to fill the positions vacated by retiring baby boomers for the organizations’ health and survival. Many millennials believe they are moving into leadership positions without sufficient preparation. The purpose of this qualitative e-Delphi study was to identify, through the consensus of a panel of experts, how to prepare millennials for organizational leadership. The importance of this study was to provide insight into (a) the crucial skills that hiring experts believe millennials need to become effective leaders, (b) a foundation for a leadership development training program specifically for millennials, and (c) the best delivery method for a training program that meet the needs and lifestyles of millennials. The qualifying 11 study participants were from six distinctly different industries. To determine consensus, Kendall’s W coefficient of concordance, mode, and a post hoc Cronbach’s alpha were conducted. The expert panel identified that leadership development programs for millennials should include communication skills, emotional intelligence, and organizational skills. The expert panel identified in-person and group-based training as the best practice for leadership training.
