The Ti–Cu–B ternary system has been systematically studied by experimentation and thermodynamically assessed combining the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagram) approach and first-principles calculation. Using seven equilibrated alloys, the isothermal section at 1073 K was established by electron probe micro analyzer equipped with wavelength dispersive spectrometer and X-ray diffraction. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis was performed on all the samples to determine the phase transformation temperatures. Primary solidification phases were also identified from the micrographs of the as-cast samples. Based on all the experimental data obtained in this work, the thermodynamic description of the Ti–Cu–B system was reasonably developed and a set of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters was obtained. The calculated isothermal section, vertical section and liquidus projection account for the experimental data satisfactorily.
