(graphite) hybridization of atomic orbitals (and, therefore, called “diamond-like carbon,” DLC) was carried out on the basis of publications of the last 20 years. The main focus is on the connection between biomedical and physicochemical parameters of analyzed coatings. The methods of formation and general requirements to DLC coatings for cardiovascular implants; in vitro reaction of blood proteins, platelets, leukocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial and smooth muscle cells; the effect of alloying of DLC coatings with silicon and its oxides on cellular and molecular parameters of their hemo- and biocompatibility are presented. Wide variations in the physicochemical, mechanical, and tribological properties of DLC films and the range of methods of their biomedical testing in vitro do not yet allow to select the most suitable coatings for

ecific applications in the field of stents, heart valves, and perfusion pumps. It was concluded that it is necessary to shift the scattered fundamental studies of DLC coatings in the direction of applied developments, as well as studying the behavior of

ecific coatings, based on design, (bio)mechanical, physicochemical, and biomedical requirements for each type of medical devices that are in contact with blood.
