• Language is the quintessential means that allows us to express ourselves and at the same time understand each other. One of the factors that helped the military conquest of Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco was the use of several indigenous languages, such as Nahuatl, Totonac, and Mayan with Spanish. In studying the possible causes that caused the fall of these cities – psychological, economic, military, and health – language can be placed within the military causes because on several occasions it served as an important link between parties and as a means of advance knowledge of military movements. On the other hand, once the military conquest was completed, the spiritual conquest took place. The first missionary friars came to know the language of the newly conquered.
