An obituary of Sophie who died in 2021 is presented. When news of SOPHIE's death broke on the morning of January 30th, "world" was the word that kept coming up in everyone's incredulous text messages. SOPHIE, of course, had deposited the word for us in the track "Whole New World/ Pretend World" (2018), a granulated militant party anthem that demands a new world while simultaneously celebrating that it's already here. To say that SOPHIE meant the world not only describes a sentimental attachment to a pop star of planetary glamour (which SOPHIE was) or a trans artist of reality-altering talent (which SOPHIE also was).
