  • [...]those contours have been debated and renegotiated through a body of work that has rapidly increased the number of poets analyzed and the critical and theoretical approaches used to read them. Methodologically, the prioritizing of close reading in some essays and wider sweeps in others enables consideration of approaches and contexts from the micro (the effects of metre and word choice) to the macro (engagement with political debate or transatlantic relations), with a repeated emphasis on the experimentation and innovation of the texts addressed. A number of popular works are revisited with rigorous new perception—Ana Parejo Vadillo offers a stunning rereading of Rossetti's "Winter: My Secret" as "a foundational poem of aestheticism and decadence" (231), for example—while the essays by Laurie Langbauer and Beverly Taylor, and Natalie M. Houston consider the importance of periodicals in shaping poetic roles and the possibilities of a "feminist computational criticism" though practices of "distant reading" (249).
