• Holland discusses the Montes de Maria ecological protectors. In Colombia and elsewhere around the world, a new appreciation has been emerging of the roles youth-led civil society can play in building and sustaining peace. To illustrate the role of youth in peace building, it's worth examining the Ecological Protectors (EP), a group of sixteen young people, ages 12-24, who reside in communities in Colombia's Montes de Maria region, located on the northern coast within the Bolivar department. Its inhabitants tend to be small-scale farmers (campesinos) of indigenous and Afro-Colombian heritage.
