Degenerative intervertebral disc disease (DDD) is a kind of spinal disease characterized by intervertebral disc degeneration, which is the most common reason of low back pain. In recent years, the incidence rate of DDD is increasing year byyear, and the diseased population shows a younger tendency. Therefore, it is very important to find new effective molecular targets for treating this disease. As a new type of endogenous noncoding RNA, circular RNAs are widely distributed in the human cells. A large number of studies have shown that, circular RNAs are ubiquitous in human cells and play a key role in the pathological process of many diseases. This review summarizes the research status of circular RNAs in the pathogenesis of DDD, and discusses the potential clinical value,to provide a theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of DDD.
