  • Initially, this article explores complementarities between the discourses of the Anthropocene and global capitalism. Doing so illuminates the kinds of crisis that affect global capitalism as a political-economic system and as a socioecological, biospheric totality. These overlapping domains interact with an ever-volatile anthropocenic Earth System. The net result is an intersystemic crisis complex which feeds off itself unpredictably, through financial collapse, ecological destruction and key tipping points associated with carbon dioxide emissions, global warming and climate change. Overall, this intersystemic crisis can be variously interpreted through particular epistemes of time: time reckoning; temporality; and coevalness. In circumstances of unending crises, predicting and creating new futures is problematic; indeed, a global crisis of futurity transpires. The global future is overdetermined, disparately experienced and beyond clear comprehension. From an ecosocialist standpoint, challenging the crises and uncertainties of anthropocenic global capitalism requires counterconstructions of time which will foster coeval and temporal solidarities of hope.
