  • The inverter-interfaced distributed generators (IIDG) are widely applied in the distribution networks. The lack of inertia brings about the transient stability problem in the distribution network. This paper establishes the equivalent control system of IIDG and the connected distribution network model for transient analysis. The power-angle curves of the IIDG are derived by the transient model. Then an energy function including potential energy and equalized kinetic energy is formulated on the basis of power-angle curves. The energy function is utilized to evaluate the transient stability of IIDGs under three phase grounding faults. A transient stability criterion is derived by the energy function. A transient stability assessment is further proposed based on the criterion. Study cases are built in PSCAD/EMTDC and the results verify the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed transient stability assessment. The transient stability assessment will promote the reliable operation of the gird-connected IIDGs.
