A theoretical consideration of unilateral pressing of a powder material in a cylindrical die for the first time identified a wave mode of compaction of the material. The plasticity of the porous material was described by a linear combination of the Fleck–Kuhn–McMeeking and Gurson–Tvergaard–Needleman models. The role of the external friction between the material and the die walls in the identified mode was shown. Significant nonuniformities of the density of the material along the height and radius of the die were detected. Qualitative features of the step development of the wave compaction mode were determined.
