  • [...]there is a need to develop alternative anti-leukemic agent with minimal side effects. Leukemia is the 13th most common cancer worldwide, with around 437,033 new cases diagnosed in 2018 [2.6% of the total].2 The Leukemia is a heterogeneous hematological malignancy characterized by unregulated proliferation of the blood forming cells in the bone marrow.3 The prevalence of leukemia is greater in the modern world may be due to the reduction in the incident of most infectious diseases and there is an increase in lifespan of humans.4 Plants are the rich source of bioactive molecules and medicinal compounds, have continued to play a leading role in the maintenance of human health since olden times. Over 50% of all modern clinical drugs are of natural product origin and they play a significant role in drug development programs in the pharmaceutical industry.5 The present chemotherapies causes short to long-term side-effects by damaging normal healthy cells along with cancerous cells, but prolonged the leukemia patients' survival rate, while the use of several anticancer agents derived from plant sources are being employed in clinical use all around the globe without harming the normal cells of the body. [...]there is a continuous 5479 effort will be made in developing alternative antileukemic drugs with minimal side-effects. Studies conducted on cell lines, microorganisms, and model animals of human diseases, showed a broad spectrum of bioactivities such as anti-oxidant, anticancer, anti-microbial, anti-malarial and wound healing effects for different parts and varying extracts of M.pubescens.
