Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • This study examines reasons for lower preference for online. as opposed to face-to-face. courses among community college business students; it proposes solutions. processes. and practices that encourage students to perceive that online courses are as acceptable and effective as face-to-face courses. It sampled 316 students, through an online survey document, who had taken both online and face-to-face courses, and reviewed their attitudes and preferences on their experiences. The students were a demographic cross-section of current and former students at Fresno City College, Fresno, California. The findings identified students' preferences regarding online courses. The survey instrument was composed of eighteen scaled and included two open-ended questions that asked students to identify factors that would make the two delivery modalities more equivalent. The four major areas identified were course management, instructor engagement and communication, access to campus resources, and group interaction. The respondents felt that, if these four areas were present, and well managed by their standards and preferences, the online courses would be perceived as equally effective as face-to-face courses. A list of best practices is presented to enable instructors to implement the positive factors and processes necessary to provide students with nearly equivalent course satisfaction across course modalities.
