- [...]the reader finds out at the beginning that s/he will receive no pleasure by reaching the end of the text (in contrast to Barthes's insistence in Le plaisir du texte), and is therefore asked to focus his or her attention not on the final product, as a goal to reach, but on the process of the story. [...]the novel takes on a twisted voyeuristic aspect, which -though probably unheeded by most (male) readers - endorses misogynist ideology. [...]by showing this silenced sexual exploitation, the novel encourages the reader to distrust dominant male discourse (which makes the sexual violence against women invisible), and also to distrust the politically progressive façade of certain men. Remembering for Margot is depicted not only as a way for her to maintain her mental health, but it is even portrayed implicitly as a force for defeating fascism in the present. [...]through Margot the novel demonstrates the positive consequences, the cathartic experience, of experiencing anger.
