Beschreibungen/Notizen
Christopher looks at four authors--Jack London, Anzia Yezierska, Lucha Corpi, and Richard Rodriguez--each of whom tells the story of a working-class protagonist who escapes the poverty and deprivation of her or his class only to find that upward mobility has come at a price: the loss of community, family, and self. The only gain each individual achieves from moving from the working class to the middle class is an ability to see what was lost and how little was gained.
