• This paper provides a description and analysis of the sectoral patterns of domestic and foreign mergers involving Canadian firms between 1962 and 1984. Theories of the motivation for corporate mergers are examined as they provide a rationale for the industrial sectors targeted by acquiring firms. Information statistics are used to examine the structural relationships between the industrial sectors of acquiring firms and their targets, their geographic location, and the merger cycle. Cette communication décrit et analyse les tendances sectorielles des fusions de sociétés canadiennes et étrangères, entre 1962 et 1964.
