• The risk of colorectal cancer in the families of patients with colorectal cancer has been characterized, 1 – 12 but it has been less clearly defined for the families of patients with adenomatous polyps. 7 – 11 Several studies have provided data supporting the adenoma–adenocarcinoma sequence in colorectal cancer, 13 , 14 which would suggest that an increased risk of colorectal cancer is also present in the families of patients who have colorectal adenomas.
