This symposium provides an account that draws attention to the dynamics of Asian countries and to the conflicts of interest among actors of industrial relations by documenting and analyzing emerging human resources and labor relations issues under the rapidly changing global economic order. Specifically, this symposium focuses on the experiences of South Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Whereas the geographic closeness and cultural resemblance of these countries control for less relevant variations, these countries show sufficient variation in terms of development strategies, employment and labor policies, vestiges of state corporatism still remain in Korean and Taiwanese IR systems, whereas the IR system in the Philippines can be described as a rare example of pluralistic industrial relations in Asia.
