  • Calls for Papers * Original essays are invited for a collection that will explore Latin American film from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Possible essay topics include, but are not limited to, general theoretical debates (i.e., how exploitation cinemas might be placed alongside existing currents of Latin American film scholarship); contexts of production; concrete studies of individual films (e.g., The Braniac), directors, or genres (lucha libre, horror, sexploitation, fantasy, trash, cult), stars (El Santo, Isabel Sarli), or the international circulation of Latin American exploitation cinemas; and the mediation of cult movies through critical reception or analysis of marketing. * Contributions are encouraged for a collection of essays (to be published by McFarland and Company) that will address the work of Stanley Kubrick from a variety of new and fresh perspectives; in particular, essays are sought that analyze several films as they relate to a particular topic. Chapters will cover such topics as Kubrick and photography, war, adaptation, and unfinished projects. Potential contributors are encouraged to submit papers on topics including, but not limited to, Sontag as a film director: her films in relation to her essays; millennial and postmillennial "end of cinema" pronouncements; ideas on the rhetorical/affective power of the image/photograph; and the role of the film writer/essayist in contemporary image culture. Conferences * Papers are sought for a panel on adaptation for the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association conference in Atlanta, April 12-16, 2006. Deadline for abstracts (150-200 words): November 1, 2005, with full name, school affiliation, address, e-mail, and phone in an attached Word-format file or in the text of the e-mail to Rebecca Housel, Film Adaptation Area Chair, housereb@rochester. rr.com or rahgsl@rit.edu.
