Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Not only did my six years on NLH help me to understand that a journal's vitality depended on both its original vision and an editor's ability to reascertain it, but my experience also afforded me a more pedestrian understanding of how an editor might deal with authors, even as I also saw how out of touch some prospective authors were, not having researched the journal or not appreciating its agenda.\n In part, these efforts were the product of the editor's unparalleled indefatigableness: a few years past the time when most professors are figuring out their retirement benefits, Ralph Cohen created the Commonwealth Center for Literary and Cultural Change. Bringing to the University of Virginia visiting scholars from all over the world was in itself a culmination of NLH's abiding connection to the field's global aspect (even as it had helped to create its English department as among the most cosmopolitan).
