Recent studies of Hebrew poetry demonstrate more and more the central role of the alphabet in giving shape and structure to poems. Cereus investigates the alphabetic sequences and alphabetic thinking in two poems in particular, Psalms 106 and 150. He found that the various ways in which the poets play with the alphabet reflect their realization of the potential for ordering specifically in written form.
