The task is to elaborate in detail the methodology of GEF Programme--Czech Republic Biodiversity Protection Project (1997). The potential stability and vulnerability of forest ecosystems in the Czech part of the Krkonoe/Karkonosze Biosphere Reserve and their potential carrying capacity for main human activities (special-purpose forest management, individual tourism, winter sports, transport infrastructure) are defined in detail in relation to the local air-pollution load and potential occurrence of habitats and species in the interest of EU. The bioindication of air-pollution load by lichens and models of the exceeding of critical loads are applied for diferentiation of the area according to the level of air-pollution load.
