  • Researchers choose their scholarly agendas based on their passions—the questions that drive them, the gaps they perceive need filling, the wrongs they want to right. Colleges and universities encourage and support this individual work in many ways, through such things as start-up packages, mentoring, travel support, seed grant programs, and recognitions. It is quite a different matter to leverage the talents and passions of multiple researchers in concert with one another to create an education research agenda that anticipates and addresses the social, cultural, and educational needs of a region such as the Great Plains. This article describes one such ongoing effort undertaken by faculty, staff, and administrators in the University of Nebraska’s College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS), where I served as dean from 2003 to 2017.
