• Anatomical art is a subject of endless fascination, and is the theme of Under the Skin: Illustrating the Human Body, an exhibition at the UK's Royal College of Physicians (RCP) displaying books, artworks, and objects from the their impressive collections. Dissection by Pierre Tarin drawing and engraving by Jacques Gautier d'Agoty, published Paris, 1748/©Royal College of Physicians Kristin Hussey, senior curator of the RCP Museum, points to “the tension between the portability and shareability of 2D technology compared to the ‘real thing’, [which] has followed medicine down the centuries. While some famous figures such as Leonardo da Vinci and Andreas Vesalius could be considered artist-anatomists or anatomist-artists, other productions crucial to the history of medicine and art were team efforts, such as Anatomie de la tête (1748): the dissection done by Pierre Tarin with the drawing and engraving by Jacques Fabien Gautier d'Agoty.
