The scientist and the information officer/librarian need assistance in filtering out the important authors on and sources for information in crucial current areas of scientific research. The persons selected to give papers at Gordon Research Conferences and the vehicles they choose to publish in regularly provide such filters in over 70 areas of current science. Further, the literature of the GRC conference subjects form consistent patterns within subject disciplines. Cross‐citation patterns may be used to determine whether conferences are “open” or “closed”. Important gaps still exist in biographical tools of scientists.
