• Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is often accompanied by MDD. Depression is related to altered functional connectivity (FC) within the default mode network (DMN), the salience network, and between them. The serotonin transporter gene (5HTLPR) regulates the symptoms of depression, including impulsivity, potentially by modulating the DMN. We hypothesized that the SS allele of 5HTLPR was associated with increased FC within the DMN and salience network, as well as between the 2 networks, which may lead to IGD in patients with MDD.
