- Extract: This paper applies a model to examine the relative impacts of a tariff and a quota in a domestic market characterized by spatially distributed consumers, significant transportation costs, and oligopolisticly interdependent domestic and foreign producers. Our predictions diverge from those derived in nonspatial trade models based on perfectly competitive, monopoly, and oligopoly market structures. Thus, we establish three propositions to highlight the major differences.
