  • The real estate brokerage industry is one that is ripe for rapid growth. Moreover, there are few large firms within the industry, and the large ones that do exist do proportionately much better than the small ones. The large firms obviously take advantage of the economies of scale that the smaller ones ignore. The industry has not attracted business interests because it is fragmented, little known, and often misunderstood. Almost all real estate borkerage firms lack financial and managerial expertise. If large firms such as Sears or Wards decided to provide real estate brokerage services, they could provide a full line of such services, a capability lacking in small brokerage firms. Large firms could overcome disadvantages of small ones by such benefits as good sales training and personnel management, computerized networks offering instant market information, and professional recordkeeping at minimal cost.
