Beschreibungen/Notizen
Our study aims at the identification of the philological and historical context of the MS Venice, Marc. gr. XI.6, a fundamental witness of Strabo's Geography. We suggest thai the model of this manuscript, called S by previous editors, was dismembered to facilitate the process of copying, which was made in a haste. Moreover, the main scribe and curator of the copy had access to another manuscript of Strabo (w'), preserved in Thessaloniki at the time, but subsequently lost. Connecting the textual and historical testimonies on the Marc. gr. XI.6 with the scholia added by the main scribe (edited in an appendix), we have been able to ensure that this manuscript dated from May 1321 wras copied in Thessaloniki. We also propose to identify the main scribe with Georgios Lakapenos, a pupil of Maximos Planudes.
