No one can doubt that Herman Kahn was present at the creation of futures studies as a multidisciplinary field of inquiry. In the 1960s, his intrepid analysis of nuclear strategy and his collaborative effort with Anthony J. Wiener, The Year 2000, were founding volumes in the field. He remained productive and controversial to the end of his life.
