  • [...]I argue that some of the children migrate to the street for prestige. In addition to reviewing previous research on this topic, this study will report lessons learned through this researcher's personal involvement with developing a curriculum and hands-on learning opportunities for teaching about roof-top gardens in two local public schools in Hisban, Jordan. The presentation will briefly highlight several ways that archaeologists working in the Ancient Near East are advancing understanding of the deep-time cultural roots of the Anthropocene, for example by their research into the origins of domestication of plants and animals; the replacement of wilderness by farming during the Neolithic; humans as ecosystem engineers; the scaling up of human agency through technology; the role of elites in bringing about socio-political and environmental changes; the environmental footprints of imperial policies; the archaeology of the rise of capitalism; the archaeological "signatures" of the "great transformation"; the story of the entanglement of people and things; the deeptime history of extreme events and disasters; and finally, lessons for today regarding human resilience and survival. [...]scholars from different expertise, history, geography, anthropology, and ethnology have found that it is significant to study cave dwellings because of the huge role they play in such fields.
