• So far my impression was that the surgery would be no more traumatic than having a tooth out. But the consultant's secretary told me that I should not fly for two weeks after the surgery-the first indication of recovery time. The next surgeon saw me in hospital, carried out an examination, told me that he would perform the surgery, and said that I would be out of hospital in a day. The fourth surgeon spoke to me as I lay on the trolley before going into the operating theatre. He asked to examine my neck.
