Averroes (1126-1198) will be remembered as a commentator of Aristotle. Although he did not know Greek (neither did most of the Islamic philosophers of his time), he was able to read the Stagirite in an original way. He developed a unique "philosophy of the imagination" that would fascinate Siger of Brabant and Boethius of Dacia, the "Latin Averroists." In his philosophical orientation, Averroes followed the path marked by Ibn Bayyah, Avempace, an Aragonese from the northern border.
