Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks lays out the difficulty of writing plays about African American people and argues that theater is for African Americans because one can "tell it like it is", "tell it as it was" and "tell it as it could be". Tucker-Abramson discusses how Parks' plays are continually exploring the limits and intersections of all three.
