  • [...]the hepatitis B vaccine can be considered the first anticancer vaccine. Because sexual acquisition of HBV is common, the hepatitis B vaccine is also the first commercial vaccine against any sexually transmitted disease. Of those who do not have an adequate response to the initial series, 25 to 40 percent respond after a single additional dose, and 50 to 70 percent respond to a further full three-dose series12. Because injection into the buttocks results in a less reliable antibody response, the deltoid is the preferred intramuscular injection site. Despite this evidence of susceptibility, cases of tetanus and diphtheria are rare among adults who at some time received a complete series of primary immunizations. [...]although seroprevalence studies support the current policy of giving routine Td boosters every 10 years to all adults, the clinical-epidemiologic data indicate that routine boosters are of marginal value. Because the same epidemiologic characteristics pertain to mumps and rubella as well, MMR rather than the monovalent measles vaccine is the vaccine of choice.
