  • Aim-To compare results of two different dynamometers for isokinetic evaluation of medial and lateral shoulder rotator. Methods-Prospective study from April to May 2013 in Rennes hospital. Twenty-two healthy male volunteers from twenty to thirty years old were tested on each dynamometer in the same position (Davies position) in an aleatory order. We studied medial and lateral shoulder rotators peak torque and RL/RM ratio at 60°/s and 180°/s for each shoulder. RL/RM ratio and peak torques were first compared between dominant and non-dominant arm, then results with the two dynamometers were compared for each arm. Results-There is no correlation for RL/RM ratio between the two dynamometers at each speed. There is no correction factor to adjust one ratio to another. Peak torques are statically different between the two dynamometers. Thought, on the same dynamometer, peak torques and RL/RM ratios are reproductible between dominant and non-dominant arm. Conclusion-Results of isokinectic tests of shoulder are very different according to the dynamometer used. There are major differences between peak torques and RL/RM ratios. Although they are rapidly expanding, in regard of these results, using isokinetic tests of shoulder stays complex for the physician, in particular in the field of sport medicine.
