An abstract of a study by Darienko et al investigating epigenetic integrity in cryopreserved green microalgae using cytosine methylation sensitive amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) is presented. Several closely related green algae (Chlorella, Micractinium) as well as model organism Chlamydomonas were cryopreserved using optimized protocols. Results show ATP levels were higher in cryorobust strains, but generally decreased under cryostress.
