• More specifically, this paper studies the writing processes mentioned above in relation with the changes affecting the structure and plot of the novel, the construction of characters and the modelling of the figures of Author and Reader. At a more general level, the paper investigates the linguistic-cultural, literary and political identities which result from the negotiation implied in the processes of (re)writing and (self)translation. Centrada en la figura del detective privado Gerardo Romero, alias Mack Hopkins, la novela comienza en la ciudad de Buenos Aires para luego trasladar la acción a otros lugares del país como Bariloche, Mar del Plata, Tigre y Florencio Varela. De este modo, la apropiación y recreación de un estereotipo de detective que emula al detective privado Philip Marlowe en Mack I da paso, en las versiones de 1992 y 2010, a una imagen cinematográfica que evoca en tono de burla la figura de James Bond, el agente del Servicio Secreto de Inteligencia Británico ('Yo creía que los detectives privados sólo existían en las novelas.
