• The hitherto lost autograph clean copy of Gustav Mahler's first Kindertotenlied "Nun will die Sonn' so hell aufgeh'n" was discovered in early 2016 within a private collection. The quality of the paper of the unsigned double leaf supports the presumed chronology of the genesis of nos. 1, 3, and 4 as being in 1901, while nos. 2 and 5 date from 1904: The first Lied was composed on the same paper Mahler used for several other works in 1901, among them the Kindertotenlieder nos. 3 and 4. The provenance of the manuscript can be firmly established between 1904 and 1911 as being with the Conrat family of Vienna, friends with whom both Gustav and Alma entertained close contact.
