China is the largest developing country in the world, which experience a remarkable economic growth in the past three decades. In 1979, China was still a highly closed and planned economy, but now it has turned to a prosperous market economy. Although China has achieved great economic performance, it also faces plenty of troubles in development. China got the economic growth at the expense of environmental pollution, inequality, and so on. Luckily we are now pursuing a more balanced development, in which the development of human being will be in the centre. So a useful index for measuring human development is in need. The most influential index in this field is the Human Development Index(HDI) which was first released by UNDP. HDI consists of three parts of human life: health, knowledge and life standard.
