• Translation from original language as provided by authorThis paper is based on the analysis of predicate-object constructions in modern Chinese. We discussed the appearance and different usages of tense, aspect and modality composition in predicate-object constructions. We hope that through our study we can provide support for the classification of predicate-object verbs and the definition of the status of predicate-object constructions. Predicate-object we discuss here includes predicate extensions and clause object. Accordingly, we put predicate-object verbs in two categories: predicate-object verbs only with predicate extensions as object; predicate-object verbs with clause object. The former clause we call predicate-object constructions, the latter we call clause-object constructions. For convenience we name the two different constructions "predicate-object constructions" by a joint name.
