- Translation from original language as provided by authorDuck viral hepatitis can be caused by duck hepatitis A virus (DHAV) and duck astrovirus (DAstV). This study was performed to develop a new approach for detecting and typing of DHAV directly from clinical samples and to investigate the genotypes circulating in China. In addition, the complete sequence of a DAstV strain presented in a DHAV-negative sample was determined. The genomic organization of DAstV and the relationship between DAstV and other astroviruses was further analyzed. Based on the comparison of genomic sequences of known DHAVs, a pair of primers was designed targeting the full conserved regions in 5 UTR and the DHAV-specific RT-PCR was therefore developed. An approximately 250-bp 5 UTR sequence was successfully amplified from DHAV strains, involving 2 serotypes.
