Translation from original language as provided by authorIn this paper, we determined the formula of the flame retardancy of red mud and its compositional systems by LOI,UL-94,SDR,CONE,TG,FTIR,SEM,XPS,XRD,pH value,mechanical properties tests, then the flame retardancy is applied in polyethylene. We studyed the mechanism of red mud and its compositional systems. We offered basic data for its industrial production. The research contents were summarized as follows:(1)We proposed a new method for removing the alkaline of red mud. Compared the different effects on red mud and materials of three removal of alkaline agents. It indicated that chemical reaction occurred between red mud and EA2, it caused that the alkaline of red mud decreased, to the material, the heat release rate decreased, LOI increased.(2)We treated red mud by two methods(four coupling agents). The results showed that phthalate esters coupling agents were helpful to improve the fracture elongation and silane coupling agents were helpful to improve
