  • Translation from original language as provided by authorWhen a light beam is totally reflected at the interface of two different media, the reflected beam is laterally shifted from the position predicted by geometrical optics. This lateral shift is well known as Goos-Hänchen (GH) effect. Up to now, the researches on the mechanism and the applications of the GH effect have been popular topics in Optics. As the investigations of the GH shift were extended to the multilayered structures, it was found that the magnitude of the GH shift of the transmitted beam and the reflected beam may be enhanced near the transmitted resonance. Generally speaking, the magnitude and the sign (positive or negative) of the GH shift are strongly dependent on the properties of the incident beam, the angle of incidence and the physics parameters of the structures. This M. S. dissertation investigates some new features of the GH shift in the multilayered structures containing metallic or nonlinear medium. The main works involved in thi
