  • This article aims to discuss the new requirements imposed on the meat market, which relate to ethical concerns about the conditions of life and death of animals. These requirements, as reflected in animal welfare standards and humane slaughter, lead markets to adopt new strategies in order to adapt their ways of working in practical and moral aspects. From this general question, this article will analyze the activities performed at the slaughterhouse, and therefore the new procedures to be adopted in these places so that the suffering of animals is minimized. For the purposes of discussion, it will be used survey data obtained during a technical visit to the slaughterhouse Acailandia (MA) and interviews with employees and former workers of the local and state actors linked to production and inspection of the meat. In this case, we will discuss how the adoption of new techniques to the animal welfare and humane slaughter emerge as a requirement that seeks the good standards of industrial production. Thus, by external pressure and moral, these new requirements are appropriate and take on a new meaning, becoming an internal management policy, involved with the production logic.
