Yet Supernatural, Humanity and the Soul offers an alternative perspective on this successful series (along the lines of Open Court's 'Philosophy and Popular Culture' book series) by focusing on humanity and the cultural discourses that surround how it is perceived and constructed. None really suggests that the writing team are drawing on the biblical and other texts cited, but nevertheless such readings work to place Supernatural in a continuum of popular culture informed by broader social and intellectual contexts. For television scholars, this volume may neglect significant industrial and production contexts in places, but for anyone with an interest in Supernatural and its continued success it is a fascinating and worthwhile read, challenging more simplistic readings of its masculine world and highlighting the evolving process of negotiating identity within the series.
