Open Access brings about radical shifts in the system of academic communication. Not only on the outside – as the role of publishers, libraries and funding agencies changes, especially in the humanities – but also methodically: what will scientific writing look like in the world of tomorrow when the web is no longer a reflection of the Gutenbergian tradition of publishing but used in a way to fulfill its real potential? When, in the digital age, the traditional concept of publishing dissolves in favour of the concept of a dynamic stream of knowledge which resembles an ever changing network devoid of any boundaries? Taking an Open Access event in Munich as its starting point, the article will shed light on different aspects of the future of research and publishing not only in the humanities.
