Beschreibungen/Notizen
In experimental models of murine colitis, helminths have been demonstrated to protect against colonic inflammation. 2 Regulatory T cells (Treg) were suggested to be responsible for this protective effect. 2 In our patient we aimed at elucidating differences in the mucosal infiltration by Treg between helminthosis and subsequent active ulcerative colitis. RNA extraction, reverse transcription and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were carried out as described previously. 5 6 We found mRNA levels of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and interleukin 4 (IL4) to be strongly upregulated during colonisation by E vermicularis compared to ulcerative colitis.
